Ingredients
Scale
- Ground beef 1 pound
- Italian sausage 1 pound
- Lasagna noodles 1 box (oven-ready)
- Ricotta cheese 15 ounces
- Mozzarella cheese 3 cups, shredded
- Parmesan cheese 1 cup, grated
- Marinara sauce 2 jars (24 ounces each)
- Egg 1 large
Instructions
- Step 1: Brown the ground beef and Italian sausage in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Drain off any excess grease. Stir in one jar of marinara sauce and simmer for 15 minutes.
- Step 2: In a large bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, egg, half of the parmesan cheese, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Mix well.
- Step 3: Spread a thin layer of the remaining marinara sauce in the bottom of a 9×13 inch baking dish.
- Step 4: Layer lasagna noodles, meat sauce, ricotta mixture, and mozzarella cheese. Repeat layers until all ingredients are used, ending with a layer of mozzarella and remaining parmesan cheese on top.
- Step 5: Cover the baking dish with foil and bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for another 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the lasagna is heated through.
Notes
- For easier slicing, let the lasagna rest for at least 15 minutes after baking.
- Reheat individual slices in the microwave or bake covered in the oven to prevent drying out.
- Serve alongside a crisp green salad with a light vinaigrette to balance the richness of the lasagna.
- Chef's tip: Blooming the meat sauce with a pinch of red pepper flakes during the simmering stage will add subtle heat and depth of flavor.
