Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 cup warm water
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
- Step 1: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, salt, sugar, and baking powder. Gradually add warm water and oil, mixing until a soft dough forms. Knead the dough for 2-3 minutes until smooth.
- Step 2: Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a long rope, about 10-12 inches long.
- Step 3: Combine mozzarella and Parmesan cheese in a small bowl. Place a spoonful of the cheese mixture in the center of each dough rope.
- Step 4: Fold the dough over the cheese, pinching the edges to seal completely, forming a stick shape.
- Step 5: Heat about 1 inch of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Fry the cheese sticks in batches, turning occasionally, until golden brown and the cheese is melted and gooey (about 2-3 minutes per side).
- Step 6: Remove the cheese sticks from the skillet and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce (marinara sauce is recommended).
Notes
- Store leftover cheese sticks in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days, or freeze them for longer storage.
- For perfectly gooey cheese, reheat leftover sticks in a slightly oiled skillet over medium-low heat until warmed through.
- Serve these cheesy delights with a side of marinara sauce for dipping, or get creative with ranch dressing or even a spicy buffalo wing sauce!
- To prevent sticking, lightly dust your work surface with flour before rolling out the dough ropes, ensuring a smoother cheese-filling process.
